Deworming Foals and Young Horses
Starting at 2-3 months of age until 3 years old, deworm 3-4 times a year.
For 4 years of age and older refer to the adult protocol.
2-3 months: Fenbendazole (Panacur, Safe-Guard)
6 months: Oxibendazole (Anthelcide EQ)
9 months: Moxidectin (Quest) – DOSAGE BASED ON WEIGHT – DO NOT OVERDOSE
12 months: Ivermectin with Praziquantel (Equimax, Zimectrin Gold)
1-3 years old: treat as high shedders
April: Anthelcide EQ and/or Strongid (Pyrantel Paste)
July: Panacur or Safe-Guard
October: Quest Plus
Foal Vaccination Schedule
The following is a recommendation for foals born to properly vaccinated dams:
3 months: WVV, Botulism
4 months: WNV, Botulism
6 months: EEE/WEE, Tetanus, WNV, Influenza, EHV (Rhino), Botulism, Strangles
7 months: EEE/WEE, Tetanus, Influenza, EHV (Rhino), Strangles, Rabies
9 months: EEE/WEE, Tetanus, Influenza, EHV (Rhino), Strangles
12 months: Influenza, EHV (Rhino), Strangles, Rabies
